How to Use Amazon Reviews for Competitor Research
Compare competitor products by the problems buyers repeat, the benefits they praise, and the gaps listings fail to answer.
Competitor research beyond ratings
Star ratings and review counts are useful, but they do not explain why buyers choose or reject a product. Review text gives the underlying reasons.
Compare by theme
Build a simple competitor matrix with rows for durability, sizing, ease of use, packaging, compatibility, appearance, price/value, and support. Then fill each row with recurring review themes for each ASIN.
Find positioning gaps
If buyers praise one competitor for convenience and another for quality, there may be room for a product or listing that combines both. If every competitor has the same complaint, that weakness may become a clear differentiation point.
Use recent reviews
Recent reviews show current buyer experience. Older reviews can still be useful, but they may describe versions, packaging, or quality issues that have changed.
Using AMZShark
